NYFW – ØDD A/W 2014 collection
Before we even talk about the collection itself, it is vital to mention how exciting the ØDD runway show was. It took place in a stark-looking studio in Chelsea on 6th February, with a sleek white runway stretching out beneath some harsh yellow lighting. The flats were also white, but a blue inky effect was projected across it. The initial models suddenly rose from the audience, making their way down the audience in time with the futuristic music, whilst moving in a more dance-like manner than the standard model strut. The futuristic hints seeped from the music and movement into the make-up, where high cheekbones were accentuated by ice-blue streaks.
The collection itself seemed to be heavily influenced by both futuristic styles and the grunge era. Featuring predominantly neutral colours (a popular trend this coming autumn, it seems) the collection, for the most part, was very wearable. Thin knitted crops, angular leather jackets and tailored marl grey jackets, ØDD ticked lots of our “edgy autumn” boxes. There was the occasional oddity, including a completely translucent suit and mac, but for the most part we witnessed a vicious array of round neck jumpers in grey blacks, lots of soft tailored trousers and the beloved black beanie hat, a theme that has reached the US from our recent British 90s grunge revival.
There was certainly a lot of British inspiration visible on the runway, especially in the outerwear. We’ve already mentioned the beanies, but the fitted leather jackets and wool coats stimulate strong notions of Brit classy grunge, a delicate balance that was well achieved. Despite the odd piece that looked like it had been thieved from the wardrobe of The Matrix, these were far and few between, and were certainly not significant enough to take anything away from the rest of the collection. Everything was connected, you could put nearly any item with any of the others and it would make for a striking look that could be easily dressed up with powerful accessories and a pair of killer shoes.
ØDD are definitely one to keep an eye on, and we are extremely excited for their future collections.
