Style tips and tricks for all hair lengths
Whether you have a cropped pixie cut, a shaggy bob or long locks, it can be tricky to think of new and exciting ways to style your hair. There are only so many days you can wear a low ponytail or a high bun before it all becomes a little boring. So here we offer easy and fun ways to add some glam or quirkiness to your daily hair routine.
Cut it
Short hair is hard to pull off, but when it works it really works. Stars such as Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway and Halle Berry all work the pixie style with ease. For inspiration, just look to your favourite pixie-haired celebrities.
Colour it
When Anne Hathaway turned up at the Met Gala with bleach-blonde cropped hair everybody was stunned and captivated by her quirky new sense of style. Anne rocked a slick, swept-up quiff which is easy to recreate with just a little wax and quick to do when you’re in a hurry. If you want to be a little daring with your hair, why not try some temporary colour? Hair chalk has become increasingly popular and you can buy a range of chalk sticks from as little as £5 – take a look here. All you need is to dampen your choice of coloured chalk and brush through your hair; pinks looks great on blondes, blue stands out on reds and purple brings some intrigue to darker hues.
Plait it
If you have medium-length hair you have a little more to play with, but of course adding a dash of colour works with every hair length. For more subdued styling ideas, centre-parted waves aren’t going anywhere any time soon and this is a popular choice among stars such as Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Aniston. Another fresh idea for medium hair is to throw in a plait here, there and everywhere. Whether you use your own hair to create a plaited headband, add small plaits through your hair or a boho chic braided up-do, it will always look relaxed yet feminine; the great thing with braiding is that it can be as messy as you like so time isn’t an issue.
The idea of plaits and braiding can work just as well with long hair. A fishtail plait is easy to do when you know how and there are hundreds of tutorials on YouTube to help you out.
Spray it
If you’re lucky enough to be blessed with long, thick hair don’t hide it away all the time, let it dry naturally and spritz in some surf spray such as this beauty by Bumble and Bumble( at £9.50 it’s the best out there). You could even throw on a headband for added boho glamour à la Nicole Richie.
So whatever your cut and colour may be, don’t let these cold winter months get you down. Add some colour to brighten up the dark days or spritz on some volume to lift your mood.
