NYFW – Sally LaPointe A/W 2014 collection

If there is one thing for certain that Sally LaPointe did for autumn 2014, it’s that she never strayed from being Sally. Her barely-tailored, monochromatic-textured aesthetic was front and centre of this collection and it looks like this is here to stay. Sally knows what she does best and she stuck to that for her autumn looks. Clean pants, and a variety of textured tops dominated most of the show: furs, knits and leather making up a majority of this range. A particularly successful element was hand-beading done in what seems to be silver bugle beads. This technique created a whole new texture and pattern at the same time; a multi-tasking that Sally is known for.

Sally’s final looks were her indulgence in eveningwear. The gowns were all cut in fairly similar silhouettes: sleeveless, fitted at the top but with a flounce, and a looser, long skirt with concealed pockets. Made of satins and silk crepes, the gowns fluidly married together minimal and feminine. To break up the modernity of each look, a few gowns featured Asian-inspired graphics printed on both sides of the skirt.

Overall, Sally’s show kept to her design aesthetic, and successfully told us how to look effortlessly cool this autumn/winter.
