NYFW – Baja East A/W 2014 collection
Located in the heart of the Meatpacking District, the Standard Hotel, High Line, is one of the most renowned luxury boutique hotels in New York City. It makes perfect sense that emerging designers Scott Studenberg and John Targon would choose it as the venue for the presentation of their uniquely relaxed and urban autumn/winter 2014 collection.
Set on a beach scene, the presentation was laid-back, welcoming, refreshingly friendly and up-beat. John and Scott introduced each item with sparks of enthusiasm and vividly communicated their excitement for their creations, their work and their vision.
Travel, adaptability and flexibility, imperfection, a blend of urban edginess and relaxed ease are some of the ideas that have shaped Baja East’s designs, producing garments with unfinished, rough edges and with animal and graffiti prints alike. Nothing in the collection is skin tight; everything is roomy and seems to breathe and flow with a great sense of comfort.
Hats and pearl accessories are used as punctuations; sneakers and beach sandals are the footwear of choice.
The designer’s vision is a truly unisex one and the clothes are 100% interchangeable. All of the items can be worn equally by both men and women and in order to demonstrate this, Scott and John asked the male and female models to switch their outfits at the end – a particularly intriguing concept that brings equally appealing and interesting results.
