NYFW – Lacoste A/W 2014 collection

If there are two words that came out of the Lacoste show, they were “track jacket”. With colour and fabric treatments practically non-existent, this collection begged for an outerwear adventure. Coats, wind breakers, and yes, to-die-for track jackets are the main focus for autumn/winter. Colours consisted of super saturated reds, blues and mossy greens. Hoods were pulled forward and buttons were buttoned, as if the models had come straight from a hike in the woods.

The other main component of this show was the knits. Men’s and women’s sweaters remained close in design and silhouette, the only difference being the women’s knits were often paired with a matching skirt instead of pants. For either sex, the knits were minimal, but interesting patterns that loosely clung to the models’ figures; a particular sweater dress made you want to sip hot cocoa, nestled next to a warm fire. While some designers use colour to create contrast, Lacoste used the fabrics to create juxtaposition; the more sensual, clingy knits versus the more sporty wools and nylons.

What the collection lacked in a total sense of innovation, it made up in wearability and loyalty to the Lacoste customer. A person wary that the brand will ease into trendier territory has nothing to worry about. So go get yourself a track jacket and head on out to your now fabulous morning jog.
