NYFW – Sergio Davila A/W 2014 collection
“On a trip to Brazil, I found myself amazed by a free-spirited group of gypsies. These cultural caravans of people on horseback can still be found moving from place to place throughout South America. I have taken small token references from their lifestyle – one rich with colour, earth tones and an adventure-filled history as inspiration for the fall/winter collection.” – Sergio Davila.
This collection was a beautiful blend of colour, adventure and historic references. Derived directly from Brazilian gypsy horsemen’s trousers and jackets, loose-fitting shirts and jackets with knit and leather sweatpants are a staple in this collection. Baby alpaca and fine organic cottons native to Peru were seen finely weaved into gorgeous knitted jacquard sweaters in browns and blues.
Davila has said that his culture is a major part of his design process. Finding that intersection between design and his life experiences is an amazing feat to conquer, and he’s done so flawlessly with this collection.
