NYFW – Meskita A/W 2014 collection
For those travelling to the tropics this fall, Meskita’s autumn/winter 2014 collection might just be the thing for you. Fitted neoprene jackets and swimsuits were the go-to look for this show. Corset-like belts completed several of the outfits, acting as further emphasis for the fitted silhouettes.
More feminine dresses, also made of the voluminous neoprene, appeared in the sea of almost scuba-inspired pants and jackets. Sunglasses were the primary accessory of choice, another reason why it seems Meskita was appealing to a customer of warmer climates. Colours remained pretty neutral in the beginning, mostly dominated by black, tan, beige, navy blue and salmon pink.
The show took a turn when a series of looks made entirely of white silk faille and dupioni walked on the runway. The fitted, white jackets, pants and dresses felt like another level of modern that Meskita was attempting to reach. The sculpted lines were still in the garments, but the emphasis became more about the silhouette than the inner-workings of each piece. Similar outfits, but in red and a gorgeous printed jacquard finished the show. One could easily see these clothes on a Miami socialite as she bounces from beach party to night club. And by the looks of this collection, her most important accessory will be her tan.
