Since we found out that Mr Basso was behind the iconic and fabulous fur worn by Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada back in 2006, our eyes have been closely following the prestigious work of one of America’s favourite celebrity designers.
At his latest autumn/winter 2014 collection – exhibited last Monday at the Theater in Lincoln Center with an audience of elite distinction with names like André Leon seated in front row – Dennis continue to prove his reputation and after 30 years in the business he has no intention of stopping any time soon.
Following big names in the history of art, like Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell as an inspiration, the collection received a magnificent hand-painted work by contemporary artists, giving the designer the creative vision to work with materials such as duchess satin and re-embroidered laces, along with metallic tweeds, sequins, chiffon and grosgrain pinstripes. Adding to this modern feeling, furs included chinchilla, sable, broadtail, and fox; these all combined to create the effect of brushstrokes on canvas. Together the result became an even more interesting and red carpet aesthetic that is also exhilarating and very glamorous.
His certainty is that every woman wearing a piece of this collection will bring out her inner artistic self.
