NYFW – Skingraft A/W 2014 collection
For Skingraft’s autumn/winter 2014 collection, a dark attitude was the prominent mood of each look. A combination of women’s and men’s clothes, every outfit had layers of jackets, hats, scarves and even some handbags.
Track jackets were popular garments among the men’s clothes, while large coats nipped in at the waist with belts were a common thread though the women’s. The colour palette largely consisted of various shades of black, some tinted with a little more burgundy, some with a shine of forest green; other pops of colour were in a quilted gold lamé and a printed blue satin. At times there were overwhelming gothic influences, and other times hip-hop culture inspirations. These two clothing styles combined, made an interesting mix of attitude and urban.
The primary fabric choices were leather, knits from sweatshirts and t-shirts, and fur. These fabrications provided a very texture-rich collection, one that could result in several different styling options. The men’s and women’s clothes could even be swapped, as some of the silhouettes reflected upon one another.
Skingraft definitely catered to a street-style heavy customer, one who loves to layer interesting pieces without going overboard with colour.
