Little Shilpa collection presentation for LFW A/W 2014
For Little Shilpa’s autumn/winter 2014 presentation we were well aware we would be stepping into a slightly peculiar world… and we weren’t disappointed.
We were directed into a dark room in Freemason’s Hall. The only things lighting the venue came from the backdrop (a large projection with a black and white horror movie playing) and torches, which became more apparent as we drew closer. We found ourselves having to amble through a mass of enthralled people who took on various angles in order to capture images of the frightening figures before them. A very surreal sight lay before us as models highlighted their eerie faces with the torches they clasped onto tightly.
Shilpa created a fully captivating scene with each model performing strange, creature of the night behaviour. It was difficult to see the full attire of the models as they were dressed in black; most attention was brought to their headpieces and faces. The designer is renowned for her spectacular headwear, with Lady Gaga being a fan of her designs, and this skill was exhibited here where hornlike strips rose from models’ heads and tangled into branches. There was also one figure who had feathers leaking from her mouth and another featured a surprising turtle back.
The models acting ability really enhanced the presentation. They crept slowly around the room and played up to the cameras, shifting their heads with their faces locked into a muted expression. Strange eyes were then projected onto the screen, shifting from the horror tone to a more trancelike mood.
Shilpa offered us dark and eerie filled with a lot of imagination and depth. We look forward to seeing what she has in store next season!
