Best trends from the awards season
The awards season is fully in swing and is proving to be one of the best yet. The celebs have put their best foot forward at some of the biggest red carpets to the hottest awards: Golden Globes, SAG, Grammy Awards and BAFTAs, to name a few. We appreciate all the fabulous hard work the famous attendees have put into the awards and their outfits. While we have seen many new winners, new memorable moments and new rising stars of late, we have most of all seen some new trends on the red carpet this award season.
Shiny shine shine
Shiny gold, silver and rhinestones were not just for the jewellery this season, as stars like Taylor Swift, Ciara and Chrissy Teigen (John Legend’s wife) all sparkled like a Tiffany’s diamond on the Grammy red carpet. This is one the most glamorous and most expensive looking trends to come out of the awards this season. It also proves to be the most stunning, as every beauty that rocked this trend looked absolutely, jaw-droppingly red carpet gorgeous. Overall, this trend has a very old Hollywood feel – think Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe – but with a modern twist. In fact it even reminds us of some of Marilyn Monroe’s red carpet looks, especially the iconic dress she wore to President Kennedy’s birthday celebration in 1962. She looked stunning and we all remember that birthday song. So, well done ladies for bringing a little old school, classic Hollywood back to the red carpet.
Sultry red
This is a pure classic and one trend that we always welcome onto the red carpet every awards season. It works everywhere, either at the Grammy’s when worn by PINK and American country singer, Miranda Lambert, to Amy Adams and Lupita Nyong at the Golden Globes. Whether as a tight show-stopper dress or a simple, shape detail gown; red remains a sultry, stunning colour and certainly the most legendary look on the red carpet.
Pretty pastels
This is one of the sweeter, lighter and softer (princess-like) trends of the awards season. It’s not trying be sexy, hot or daring. In simple terms, this trend is all about staying classy. Zooey Deschannel, Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery and American country singer, Kacey Musgraves work this look beautifully at the Golden Globes and the Grammys. In a sense, it altogether pays homage to one of the most classy red carpet queens of all time, Miss Audrey Hepburn, and honestly we think she would have been proud.
Lovely lace
We all have the amazing Beyoncé to thank for this becoming a hot trend this season, but Queen B is not the only one that has been rocking this lovely lacy look. Australian presenter Renee Bargh stunned everyone at the SAG Awards in a scarlet lace dress, while Cate Blanchett wore an open back lace gown by Armani Prive to the Golden Globes and Margot Robbie wore an Elie Saab spring 2014 jumpsuit to the Critics’ Choice Award. And can we just say that these women are pulling off the lacy trend perfectly. Not too bridal and not too showy… in the words of Goldilocks, it’s just right!
Now while we throw ourselves into these new glamorous red carpet trends, let’s not forget, ladies and gentlemen, that the awards season is not over yet. There is still so much more to come, especially the big grand daddy of them all…The Oscars, is right around the corner. Seriously, March cannot come any sooner.
