Fashionable and pregnant: get mum-to-be ready with the high street

One of the great things about fashion is that it is truly for everyone. Say what you want about it but it definitely doesn’t discriminate. There is always something for everybody; every style, every look and every size, from tall and petite to skinny and curvy. Fashion doesn’t leave anyone out. Especially not forgetting the lovely mothers-to-be. 

Maternity wear is one of the best things to come out of fashion since stretchy skinny jeans (thank God for those). It’s available on most popular high-street stores and growing more popular every season. Asos, Next, Dorothy Perkins and even the high and mighty, fashion favourite, Topshop has joined in on the act, producing some of the best pieces out there. 

We know what you’re thinking: “Oh maternity wear; it’s just going to be a bunch of long, dark dresses that are completely unflattering.” Well on the contrary, no. Many maternity clothes are in fact very flattering and aim to show the beauty of pregnancy with gorgeous pastel maxi dresses, cute tops and even some of the most comfortable jeans ever. Designers understand that the pregnancy process at times can seem a little scary and mothers can sometimes feel uncomfortable. Knowing this, designers instead aim to show the more beautiful side of maternity, by helping mothers-to-be with easy, quality styles that make them look forward to being a little mummy even more.  

To be honest, maternity wear doesn’t just stop with making you feel comfortable. It even manages to follow the hottest seasonal trends, as many high-street brands, like Topshop, make maternity versions of their normal clothing. Well, you know that lovely floral dress you saw on the mannequin in the window? That’s available in maternity sizes too, showing that everything doesn’t have to change during pregnancy, even your style. 

Maternity wear has become so popular, that for some, it’s actually one of the best bits about being pregnant, as well as having a child, of course. Celebrities like Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson and Kate Middleton have taken full advantage of maternity wear. Proving that even during nine months of change, you can still take your baby bump through new, stylish heights.  Nonetheless, if you love fashion, you should never have to give it up, because fashion will always be with you every step of the way, even leading up to motherhood.
