Peaches Geldof dies aged 25
TV presenter Peaches Geldof, second daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, has died today at the age of 25. The shocking news broke around 6pm this evening, after police had earlier been called to an address in Wrotham, Kent. They were following up a lunchtime report of concern for the welfare of a woman, who was later pronounced dead by South East Coast Ambulance Service.
In a statement, Kent police said the death was being treated as “unexplained and sudden”. Bob Gelfof has paid tribute to his daughter by saying: “Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us. We loved her and will cherish her forever.”
Geldof had enjoyed a highly successful media career, from the age of 14, having contributed to Elle Girl, the Telegraph and the Guardian, as well as TV shows including ITV2’s OMG! with Peaches Geldof. She had also worked as a model and was frequently seen at fashion shows; just last week, she attended the launch of Tesco’s F&F clothing range in London.
The writer and presenter was married to musician Thomas Cohen, with whom she had two young sons: Astala (twenty months) and Phaedra (ten months). Geldof, who had regularly posted photos of herself and her young family online, tweeted for the last time on Sunday evening. The young mother uploaded a photo of her as a child with her late mother Paula Yates, who died from a drug overdose in 2000.
Geldof said she had experimented with drugs as a teenager but was “never that wild”. In a heartbreaking response, her husband Thomas Cohen declared: “My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra, and I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts every day. We shall love her forever.”
