Lakai Limited Footwear teams up with Earl Sweatshirt
Leading footwear brand Lakai has announced an exciting collaboration with American rapper Earl Sweatshirt (of hip-hop collective Odd Future). The spring range will include limited edition apparel and shoes, available in the UK this month.
Founded by movie director Spike Jonze and professional skateboarders Mike Carroll and Rick Howard in 1999, Lakai has a strong focus on creating an atmosphere that is supportive and motivating, whilst developing an impressive product line. As a result, the brand has maintained a unique level of integrity and respect within the skateboarding community since its launch.
The idea of teaming up evolved naturally; Earl and Lakai team leader Nakel Smith have been friends since childhood, having grown up skateboarding together in Los Angeles. Developed from Earl’s love of the Lakai Camby shoe, the label will release four new colourways of this popular style, together with a series of t-shirts, hoodies, socks and bucket hats, to skate shops in the next two weeks.
Earl worked closely with the team at Lakai to design footwear with a distinctive aesthetic and specific functionality. Influenced by Odd Future’s iconic “Doughnut” logo, the established low-top silhouette will include two all-canvas colours for “on the stage” use, alongside two all-suede combinations for “on the board”. The former sees traditional black juxtaposed with a grey wavy pattern, whilst the latter consists of tonal emerald and crimson. Bright orange insoles, featuring a cartoon illustration of the well-known rapper, add a comical, personal touch to the footwear.
Items from the Earl Sweatshirt for Lakai collection can be pre-ordered from various skateboard shops across the UK now.
