Roksanda Ilincic: Avenue 32’s LFW one to watch
Roksanda Ilincic is a byword for elegance. This Serbian-born designer is taking London by storm, with her clean-lined urban evening wear in bold block colours, pared-down tailoring and sharp architectural inspiration.
Since graduating Central St Martins in womenswear, she has sported an unmistakable signature style, with draping, vibrancy and sumptuous fabrics. Roksanda launched her label in 2002, winning the Red Carpet Award at the British Fashion Awards 2012, and is a regular at London Fashion Week. Described variously as flawless, exclusive and “one of the greatest London designers”, she’s been worn by Diane Kruger and Laura Carmichael, and is stocked by Selfridges, Liberty, Net-a-Porter, Harvey Nichols and Avenue 32.
This is the wardrobe of the modern London woman: the catwalk meets the streets of the City. Classy, feminine and with a strong sense of the modern, her collection of swimwear is glamorous and creates a chic silhouette. Teal and red sit alongside a black and white stripe in modest but polished styles.
The 14/15 pre-autumn collection features plum hues and bright oranges, with a smattering of woollen grey and strong lines. Floor-length gowns with a sporty edge and A-lines dominate, with oversized coats and trousers tailored to perfection in dark greens and purples.
Roksanda creates undoubtedly head-turning party pieces, straight from the runway to the cocktail bar. Patchwork and stripes feature heavily, with a steady reliance on modern art trends and unusual materials. Contrasting panels clash with block pleats to illustrate inspiration that ranges from the schoolroom to the circus.
With a newly-opened store on Mount Street and a catwalk show at London Fashion Week on 15th September, Roksanda is at the forefront of this season’s must-have collections. Minimal, fearless and unendingly elegant, Roksanda Ilincic is true indulgence for your wardrobe.
