August Getty catwalk show report for NYFW S/S 2015
August Getty is a young designer whose debut at the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week was a total hit. Currently based in Los Angeles, August is devilishly handsome and is barely of age to drink (not even 21 yet), but his S/S 2015 collection is flawless, futuristic and timeless.
The seductive simplicity of each item makes it hard to believe that this young designer is completely self-taught. August also recently opened a studio in LA named August Getty Atelier. Rumour goes that he learnt his craft partially by studying his mother’s dress collection. Yes, Mr. Getty comes from a rich oil dynasty in LA, his mother must have had great taste.
The subdued colours of the collection, frequently defaulting into black and white, glamorous see-through lace tops, head turning extravagant dresses with metallic details that make one think of the Queen of England and Cheshire Cat, sexy mini skirts with pockets – Getty’s collection is all of that and more. It also asserts power, confidence, ownership and just a tad of snobbism. The models’ natural looking long hair, minimalist make-up, inconspicuous accessories and reserved attitude made the runway classy and neat, allowing for no unnecessary distractions.
One of our favorite items was loose fitting black and white overalls with a bare shoulder and a deep cut on the side, revealing just enough skin to tantalize your imagination. The reappearing bare shoulders/one shoulder theme was also very sexy, stylish and chic every time. It’s just what you need to escape the heat and look fabulously gorgeous. It is a beautiful debut collection for sure.
