Mara Hoffman catwalk show report for NYFW S/S 2015

For her spring/summer 2015 collection, Mara Hoffman took us out to play. With athletic silhouettes, child-like prints, and colors you could taste. The show was set with cactus plants in the background to emphasize open, sun-filled spaces for discovery.

Allowing easy movement and flexibility, her clothes mainly comprised of maxi dresses and skirts, and wide-leg pants. Soft jerseys and cottons draped away from the body, while sharp buttoned collars and geometric cut-outs served as structured contrast. One could easily see these go anywhere around the country; from the deserts of Arizona, to the hot sidewalks of New York.

Hoffman’s prints were particularly exciting in her playful silhouettes. She utilized geometric-like stripes, palm tree leaves, and hippie-like rainbows as surface designs. A particular favorite amongst the audience was a graphic set of rings that varied in color, resembling a kind of color wheel. Another notable print of multi-colored birds on a white background played nicely on long, sweeping maxi dresses.

This collection’s colors had the perfect balance of saturated and unsaturated options. Soft, subdued shades furthered the kind of sun-faded aesthetic of the clothes. While bold, elementary colors felt cool and modern on the casual silhouettes. Although a rainbow can often seem too literal of an image, Hoffman played with the obviousness to create an exciting graphic.

Hoffman created a perfect collection for those too artsy for the normcore trend, yet who also desire the same level of comfort and ease. This youthful collection already excites us for spring’s sunny days.
