Parkchoonmoo catwalk show report for NYFW S/S 2015

Designer Demi Park gave us an undeniably cool collection for spring 2015. Her ultra modern silhouettes felt new and innovative, even when playing with existing outerwear proportion. Opting out of spring’s vibrant colors, she utilized a utilitarian palette of white, brown, dark blue, and black. Park’s variety of textures furthered her modern designs, using a range of textiles from heavy leather to sheer organza.

Still maintaining cohesion, each look was different from the last. Unlike some designers that minutely manipulate the same garment for multiple looks, Park took on each girl with an entirely new design. She perfected the balance of sporty structure with feminine draping in this collection, effectively layering several pieces to create a perfect balance. Some pieces moved on the body, while others stayed still; both types of garments complementing the other.

While black, brown, and blue can sometimes feel a bit dark for spring, it actually felt modern and earthy. Park successfully appealed to those who don’t necessarily wear colour in the spring.

The variety in textiles was also extremely effective in conveying the concepts in this collection. Within this narrow color palette was a wide range of textures that emphasized each garment’s innovativeness. Perhaps the most successful were her white combination sheer and opaque looks. These felt fresh and architectural and gave new meaning to the kind of sporty trend on the runways this season. Equally noteworthy were her sturdy yet soft jackets and her minimalist print jersey tops.

Parkchoonmoo offered a great amount of new material for spring. The modern garments and earthy fabrics embrace the dewy, cool side of this season.
