Ryan Lo collection presentation for LFW S/S 2015
Hong Kong-born Ryan Lo presented his tropical SS15 collection today at the Newgen Topshop show space. The designer, self taught from Youtube videos, created a collection reminiscent of the 70s and 80s disco culture with an under the sea twist. Youthful models sat and stood amongst giant sea horses, parasols and palm trees whilst displaying the innovative, colourful and completely wearable collection. Lilac dungarees and a tropical striped-off-the-shoulder dress were two highlights of the show, although all pieces were strong.
The palette may have been filled with sickly-sweet colours and the collection may have been worn by models in their mid-teens whilst Abba’s Seventeen played on, but this collection had an incredibly womanly allure. Spaghetti straps revealing a lot of decolletage and slender shoulders created a sensuous element to the collection.
Lo states his trademark pieces are his “pink frocks” and albeit there being a lot of candy colours throughout, this collection went further than pink frocks and, in fact, took us to a place where few young designers can; a place where a room full of press push each other and scramble in order to get the best pictures possible for their instagrams. The créme de la créme of the publishing world was there, all due to the fact that Lo can design a damn good collection. We’ve got our eye on you.
