Simone Rocha X J Brand: collaboration of colour
Since her much applauded spring/summer 2015 collection showcased at London Fashion Week, Simone Rocha has taken a step away from the elegantly dark designs that she has recently been creating and developed a cheerfully colourful capsule collection for US denim label, J Brand.
Drawing inspiration from her Dublin school days, there is a youthful aesthetic as she interlaces frills and ruffles into the denim, merging this detail with a minimalistic and androgynous look – a concept seen time and time again throughout her designing career. She admits working with the denim was “a real challenge”. This could be because Rocha is a self-confessed non-wearer of jeans. She also said that she “loved the idea of working with such an honest, authentic fabric;” a change from the wools and silks that she is used to working with.
28 year–old Rocha admits, “I wanted it to feel a little awkward, a bit young and naive, like the jackets are voluminous and oversized and you see a lot of ankle with the jean,” which exposes the unique side of her ideas. It is clear to see from her creations that she has truly broken the denim mould.
Prices range from £245 to £430 with the collection going live on Net-a-Porter in late November and in Selfridges from 1st December.
