The Blonds catwalk show report for NYFW A/W 2015
Designers Phillipe and David Blond launched their whimsical and eccentric label The Blonds in 2007 and haven’t stopped shocking the industry since. Known for their embellished bodysuits, extravagant make-up and taking glamour to a new level, even in this day-and-age, their work has been featured on celebrities such as Katy Perry, Amanda Lepore, Paris Hilton and Mr Jay. The latter two were seen right at the foot of the runway applauding their tailors.
As per usual, The Blonds did not disappoint. Wearing their own creations, the designers opened the show with A Clockwork Orange theme directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1972, complete with top hats, suspenders and long-sleeved bodysuits. Their distinct flair was added with excessive amounts of jewels, knee-high stilettos and high-drawn eyebrows. Models notably donned white-winged eyeliner, teased-straight hair, and gold-plated chokers. Another feature of this particular collection were the eyes that appeared on the backs of coats and fake nails to accentuate the Clockwork Orange theme.
What’s so intriguing about these designers and their collections is that they pay attention to every detail of the model’s body to add their own pizzazz. Each model was given blond hair extensions that swept along the back of their waist as they strutted with what can only be called attitude with a capital “a”. Their nails, a signature touch of The Blonds, completed each look. Each nail was individually designed to encapsulate the outfits. In one instance, the model brought her four fingers to show that the nails as a complete piece formed a blue eye, which she flashed as her own.
A few outfits stood out on their own for their bright orange, red and green accents that could be seen miles away. Fur coats and wraps also finished off some glamorous looks to play off the skin-displaying bodysuits and heavy corsets.
The Blonds declared that “every woman should be glamorous every day” and with that sentiment, they left the audience going home to re-evaluate the amount of self-expression they put into their everyday outfits and nails.
