Mimi Tran catwalk show report for LFW A/W 2015
Mimi Tran boasts design elegance in her aptly named Red Carpet Collection, delivering a vibrant showcase for autumn/winter 2015 that was big on drama. Bringing classic glamour to the LFW runway, Mimi’s designs took a contemporary turn as figure-hugging gowns were adorned with masses of jewelled embellishment.
Set in the majestic Freemasons’ Hall, the show began with an assortment of ultra-feminine sundresses. Toughened up with select leather pieces, Tran presented an experimental mix of textures, while the impact of the collection slowly grew as daywear gave way to floor-sweeping evening gowns.
Tran set the tone for the second half of the show with a flamboyant red blazer suit, which was markedly more sensual than the exclusively black and nude designs seen previously. The collection took on elements of avant-garde design, featuring angled off-the-shoulder dresses with seductive cut-outs. A black and red glitter evening gown was amongst the stand out pieces, with an undisputed ability to command attention – no doubt part of Tran’s mantra to empower the modern woman.
The designer’s decision to finish with a striking bridal gown was a fitting end for a highly theatrical show. Far from being demure, the fitted bodice and fishtail skirt rounded off a diverse collection full of surprises.
