Off the beaten track at the David Roberts Arts Foundation, Edeline Lee created an immersive experience to welcome her new line Pop-up Art Cut-out. Transitioning art through the world of fashion, the exhibition directed by Than Hussein Clark created a mise-en-scène inhabited by the artwork of David Roberts.
Speaking with the designer, she explained the direction of the line comes from that of our modern woman. “You are here, but where are you going,” with the ambition of dressing the artistic woman – she was required to consider the necessities of the future lady.
The palpable quality was channelled through “small detail that you can’t really see,” focus was placed on the creation of fine workmanship when producing the items made of lightweight wool gabardine. Structured silhouettes and cut-outs filled with reversible neoprene mesh, constituted the bulk of the asymmetric collection finished with pipe edging.
Blacks, oranges and turquoise created a varied and distinctive colour palette, featuring textured fabrics sourced from mills in Italy and France. With pieces printed with obscure arrows, the theme was referred to repeatedly.
Lee is in her third year and has begun to explore the connecting concepts of authority and choice in decision making – a playful yet confident range.
