Ryan Lo catwalk show report for LFW A/W 2015
This season sees Ryan Lo’s celebrated eccentricity tone down as he presented an expressively romantic collection at the Topshop Show Space, claiming his heroine has now “grown up”.
While his spring/summer 2015 collection saw Lo reference The Little Mermaid, this season’s princess is Frozen’s Elsa. With the catwalk decorated with paper sculptures to look like icy mountains, fur, feather and lace were the main focal points – sharp damask coats trimmed with maroon fur, contrasting lace A-line dresses and feather headdresses attached to veils began the tale with a wintry, dark aura.
A straight-cut dress patterned with crimson roses and navy ruffle neck blouse gave a retro feel along with slouchy textured dresses worn with broached scarves. Like a fairy story, the ambience quickly moved to lighter territory as snowy white hues dominated the floor in the form of textured fur coats, tulle midi skirts and over-the-knee boots, demonstrating the ice queen vision.
The result was a cross between 1960s glamour and Victorian dolls, a perfect combination since Lo’s inspirations include Anna Karenina and Odette of Swan Lake. Overall, this was a more sophisticated direction from a designer who continues to impress with his unique creations and growing list of attributes.
