Prabal Gurung launches shoes for spring 2015
Straight from New York, Prabal Gurung has set the fashion world in awe with his first ever shoe collection for spring 2015.
The Singaporean–Nepalese luxury womenswear designer is no stranger to the red carpet, having dressed the likes of Zoe Saldana as well as fashion stars such as Gigi Hadid. Starting out as an apprentice to several local productions and fashion houses, and designing with Manish Arora while studying at New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology, his flair for the industry blossomed.
When Gurung moved to New York in 1999 he became an intern at Donna Karen while attending Parsons School of Design and soon went on to join Cynthia Rowley’s design team for two years. In 2009 Prabal Gurung launched his own collection during New York Fashion Week, where his personal style and unique designs came to life. This year his work can be worn in the form of four stunning pairs of shoes, available in both flats and heels.
Gurung’s spring show represented an elegant femininity with a modern twist. Using a range of complimentary colours and well-designed straps, Prabal Gurung has created an architectural look with a detail to the heel of each shoe and rhodium plating to add some power and style.
The collection includes a wide spectrum of colour, from subdued monotones to bright pastel shades. Of note are the deep yellow and bright turquoise pair, with a black side strap that compliments itself beautifully as a simplistic yet bold design, and an all-black pair which feature a daring embossed snakeskin print. Each design has a differently structured look and height to help contour the foot in an elegant way as well as looking striking to the eye. The stunning collection and diverse range of design choices makes them perfect for the oncoming summer and extra special nights out.
