Is Choupette Lagerfeld the world’s richest cat?
Unforgettable blue-eyed Birman, Choupette, has her own Instagram account, frequently enjoys first class travel and has had a book published in her honour. Not only does she provide owner Karl Lagerfeld with design inspiration, she also brings home a hefty pay cheque.
Lagerfeld, the Chanel and Fendi creative director, claims his cat earned £2,172,625, last year, from just two jobs – a collaboration with cosmetics brand Shu Uemura, which produced the Shupette collection, and a session posing for the Vauxhall Corsa car calendar. That’s just a fraction less than Cara Delevingne, who worked tirelessly during 2014 for her rumoured £2.4 million pay packet.
“She did two jobs and made €3 million last year. I don’t allow her to do foodstuffs and things like this. She’s too sophisticated for that,” the 81-year-old owner told The Cut when he arrived in New York to showcase his latest Metiers d’Art collection for Chanel. Choupette, of course, stayed in her own suite, complete with a maid in attendance.
“She hates other animals and she hates children,” he said. “She stays always with me and she has two personal maids. They play with her, they have to take care of her beautiful white hair, the beauty treatments for her eyes, and they entertain her. She is the centre of the world. If you saw her, you would understand.”
Choupette continues her reign as the world’s most pampered feline; she is the new cover star of US fashion magazine Lucky’s 100+ Stylish Animals issue.
