The Net Set: Net-a-Porter’s new social network
The most fashion-forward of you will have already heard of The Net Set, Net-a-Porter’s social network, launched last week. The app is set to fill the gap in this market by creating a network of fashion addicts seeking inspiration and elitism.
Natalie Massenet who attended the launch party told Vogue: “The Net Set is to mobile in 2015 what Net-a-Porter.com was to desktop in 2000”. Although the app is free to download from the app store, you must receive an invite code to log in. These codes are distributed on a first come first served basis.
So what’s the point of the app? Well, firstly you create a profile and then you fill it with your favourite Net-a-Porter items by clicking the little red hearts – similar to “liking” an image on Instagram. You can group your items together by creating style tribes, such as rock chic or double denim – like creating a Polyvore collage, sort of. You can follow friends and look at their style tribes and vice versa, however instead of “friends” or “followers” you get “admirers”.
Got the perfect skirt but can’t find the outfit? By uploading an image of a piece of your own clothing the app will generate a whole set of choices that will complete a great outfit. If you upload an image of an inspiring print, the app will give you items in similar prints or colours. If that is not enough to make you want to join the wait list, you can shop directly in-app and The Net Set members in 170 countries receive next day delivery and users living in London, New York or Hong Kong receive same day delivery.
