Lady Gaga set to launch clothing line for pets
At the end of last month, US music website Billboard exclusively announced Lady Gaga’s latest project away from music: a clothing line for pets, inspired by her own pooch Miss Asia Kinney. “Quality, functional and purposeful” is the ethos guiding the production of the range including clothing, bowls, accessories and toys.
Gaga’s manager Bobby Campbell told Billboard: “This is not just about crazy outfits for dogs, it’s about giving pet parents and pet owners a fun and creative way for protecting their pets, as well as fun clothes to display on Instagram (because Gaga loves doing that).” According to Campbell, the project has been in development for the past six to eight months and is centred on Lady Gaga’s love for her pup. The clothing and accessories line will also be accompanied by an organic food range.
Whilst there’s been no launch date given, the as yet unnamed collection has the support of IMG Licensing and has engaged Cindy Bailey, the former president of Entertainment One’s pop culture and lifestyle licensing division and founder of global pop culture brands SO SO HAPPY and Skelanimals, to head up brand development in collaboration with Gaga and her team.
“I really have a knack for what’s quality,” Gaga posted on Instagram on 28th May, telling fans: “My vision is to find creative and functional ways for pets and their owners to bond! @MissAsiaKinney”.
Lady Gaga was accompanied by Asia (a gorgeous French bulldog) last year on September’s cover of Harper’s Bazaar and in the accompanying interview, detailed how she makes gifts for and prepares homemade meals for her dog.
In March this year, Asia made her debut on Instagram and in the following days attracted over 15,000 followers, claiming stardom in her own right. In the run-up to the Billboard exclusive, she was photographed in a number of poses wearing a range of outfits and accessories, with captions alluding to the big announcement and posted on Instagram.
