How to choose the right sunglasses for your face shape

How to choose the right sunglasses for your face shape

Now that summer is finally on our doorstep you might be finding yourself scouring shops for your perfect summer outfit. But as you put on your daisy dukes and crop tops don’t forget that you will need the ultimate summer accessory to finish your look: an amazing pair of sunglasses.

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the aviators, clubmasters, wayfarers, and cat-eyes do not fret – we are here to help you find the sunglasses that will best compliment the shape of your face.

Face shapes can be divided into four basic categories: oval, round, square, and heart-shaped. So have a good look in the mirror to determine which category fits your face and find our tips below!

Oval

If you have a wider forehead and your face gradually tapers into your chin then you are in luck! You have an oval face shape which means you can rock basically any type of sunglasses. You can play it safe with a great pair of aviators or opt for a mysterious look behind an oversized pair. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Round

If your face is more round and widest at the cheeks you do best to avoid that roundness in your sunglasses. You can add definition to your face by going over the top with an oversized frame (keeping in mind to avoid softly curved corners) or by choosing a smaller rectangular pair. Don’t be afraid to go edgy – both in shape and style choices.

Square

Do you have a strong jawline that is approximately the same width as your cheekbones and forehead? Then you have a squared face. You should look for frames that will soften the edges of your face. Simply put, you want smaller frames with rounded corners. But don’t shy away from something more playful, like a cat-eye frame or a vintage round 60s pair (think John Lennon).

Heart

Does your face taper strongly from a broad forehead into a pointy chin? This means your face is heart shaped. You cannot go wrong with cat-eyes as their wide frames balance out your face. Quirky round frames are your friend but you can stick to a classic wayfarer if you are looking for a more modest look.
