How to find the best skirt to suit your body shape
Hot weather calls for bare skin and cute skirts, so why not show of your sun-kissed legs and find the perfect skirt to accentuate your shape? Whether you are a tall banana or a short hourglass we’ve got tips for you.
Long legs
Long legs can get away with nearly any type of skirt – mini, midi, or maxi. You can afford to sport a little more fabric on your mini skirt as it will still show off your long legs. Avoid midi skirts if you have fuller calves.
Short legs
If you are looking to elongate your legs, pick a skirt that reaches just below the widest part of your thighs. Not only will you look taller, it will also slim your legs. Wear high heels for extra length. Don’t shy away from maxi skirts, though, as they can be a great way to create the illusion of length. A slim, high-waisted maxi can lengthen your legs.
Banana shape
Banana shapes carry more weight around their middle so to create the illusion of body wear stiff fabrics and structures. A shorter, form-hugging skirt will emphasise your natural curves and bring out your slimmer legs. A flared maxi can balance out your natural shape and a pencil skirt with a peplum can create a curvier physique.
Pear shape
A-lines, A-lines, A-lines! They highlight the smallest part of your waist and flare out over the hips, making them the perfect style for pear shapes. Wide hems and loose draped skirts are your friend but don’t be afraid to try on a pencil skirt if you want to steal the spotlight and show of your curves.
Apple shape
The key to an apple shape is minimising your midsection by drawing more attention to your legs so a skirt can really help define your shape. Avoiding your natural waist is key. A high-waisted full circle skirt falls on the smallest part of your upper body and flares out, creating a feminine shape.
Hourglass shape
Dressing an hourglass shape is all about accentuating your curves. Highlight them by emphasising your waist in a snug skirt. Pick a stiff fabric smoothes out your thighs. Flared skirts with a high waist can help create a slim shape whilst covering a tummy.
