Unseen wedding photos of Prince Charles and Princess Diana to be auctioned
Unpublished photographs taken behind the scenes at the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, have been released ahead of their sale next month.
The set of 12 photographs were taken at the wedding reception in Buckingham Palace on 29th July 1981, which followed the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Several black and white images depict Diana with members of her family – including the Queen, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and Prince Andrew – and often holding five-year-old bridesmaid, Clementine Hambro. The royal couple are also pictured on the Palace balcony overlooking crowds gathered on the Mall below.
Two of the colour photos show the Queen watching the crowds arriving outside Buckingham Palace on television, while another shows royal wedding dress designers, Elizabeth and David Emanuel, arranging the train.
The images come from the collection of an assistant to photographer Patrick Lichfield, and are accompanied by a detailed letter of provenance, identifying the subjects in each photograph, and offering further specifics.
The Remarkable Rarities live auction event from RR Auction will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, on 24th September 2015. Spokesman, Bobby Livingston, said: “These never-before-seen photographs capture the candid and unrehearsed moments of the fairytale wedding.”
