Angel Chen catwalk show report for LFW S/S 2016
After graduating from Central Saint Martins last year with her acclaimed collection Les Noces, Chen returned to the spotlight with her SS16 collection, evolving with new refreshing and spirited designs.
This new collection plays on bold, bright colours, clashing fabrics and daring new prints, whilst staying true to Chen’s eccentric character to create a collection for the childish, free-spirited and quirky characteristics of young people in today’s society.
The models started the show in hot pink, metallic brights with structured tailoring, contrasting with heavily knitted head-wear and shawls in similarly bright colours. This unusual play with textures and fabrics kept Chen’s designs interesting and unique for SS16, whilst the designer also played with patterns by the incorporation of pink, camouflage prints and sequinned pieces.
The Chinese fashion designer manipulated her fabrics with a range of softer designs, featuring pleated skirts and flowing capes in soft pinks, warm yellow and baby blue hues. Bright red and bold, black pieces featured alongside the softer shades, whilst intricate, lace and zip details accompanied the softer fabrics in the collection, creating a romantic yet rebellious spirit to her designs this SS16.
A mix of knitted sandals, chunky biker boots and sports socks were worn with the rebellious and playful SS16 collection. The models completed the look with bold eye makeup consisting of graphic eyeliner and hot pink eye-shadow, whilst their hair was braided into disarray, reflecting the free-spirited nature that has become synonymous with the Angel Chen brand.
