Veuve Clicquot Widow Series: A Beautiful Darkness exhibition opens on 29th October for one day only
This autumn Veuve Clicquot announces the launch of an annual celebration and exhibition of creative and cultural excellence: The Veuve Clicquot Widow Series. Each year in October, the brand partners with a different creative luminary to produce the ultimate Halloween experience. This month will see SHOWstudio founder and fashion photographer Nick Knight as the illustrious first curator, producing newly commissioned, never-before-seen work.
The Veuve Clicquot Widow Series pays homage to the revolutionary Madame Clicquot, who was famously widowed (veuve is French for widow) and single-handedly took on her late husband’s Champagne business, eventually pioneering several industry innovations, demonstrating her unparalleled creative prowess. The annual event is also a nod to freedom of expression around Halloween, celebrating the arts and creative community worldwide.
The Veuve Clicquot Widow Series will launch as the most stylish and glamorous alternative to traditional perceptions of Halloween. Through the partnership with Nick Knight, one of the world’s most influential and visionary photographers, and SHOWstudio, an award-winning fashion website, the exhibition will encapsulate the theme A Beautiful Darkness, launching with a private exhibition viewing and private party on 28th October 2015. The following day, the immersive experience will be open to the public with free entry for one day only.
Celebrating SHOWstudio’s role as pioneers of fashion film, the central focus of the event will be the premiere of five specifically created haunting fashion films from some of the world’s most exciting up-and-coming fashion filmmakers, who Nick Knight has handpicked to showcase.
Upon entering the atmospheric venue, guests will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a series of specially curated rooms, which have been given over to exciting collaborators, both old and new, who are working with Nick Knight to make this a most memorable event. These rooms will bring to life themes including fashion, film, art and some of the myths connected to All Hallow’s Eve. Collaborators include Lady Amanda Harlech, taxidermist Rose Robson and fashion designer Gareth Pugh. Ticket-holding guests can supplement their experience by purchasing a tasting experience with different Veuve Clicquot champagne pairings, designed to complement each of the rooms’ creative expressions.
Nick Knight says of the partnership: “It is an honour to have been chosen to front the first ever Veuve Clicquot Widow Series. I feel that both Veuve Clicquot and I are aligned in the wish to champion new ways of displaying fashion, and particularly fashion film. I founded SHOWstudio to be the home of fashion film and it’s exciting to see how many talented creatives are embracing it, a selection of whom will contribute to this very special occasion. I hope A Beautiful Darkness will be a truly unique cultural event that will offer attendees a new way of seeing fashion and art as well as proposing a beautiful new dark aesthetic to celebrate Halloween.”
Since its creation in 1772, Veuve Clicquot has played an instrumental role in establishing and evolving the Champagne industry and in recent years has continued to lead that innovation in every creative field. Having previously worked with creators such as Tom Dixon, Pablo Reinoso, Andrée Putman and Charlotte Olympia, Veuve Clicquot is proud to launch The Veuve Clicquot Widow Series with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio this year
