Kristen Stewart named new face of Chanel Beauty
Actress Kristen Stewart is the new face of Chanel makeup, the house has announced.
She joins a stellar line-up that includes model Gisele Bundchen (who fronts the Les Beiges campaign), and fellow screen star Keira Knightley (the face of Rouge Coco lipsticks). Kristen will represent Chanel’s latest eye make-up collection, and – considering her own tendency towards smoky, often grungy lids – we think it’s a great fit for both the actress and the brand.
Due to launch next month, the campaign will be shot by Mario Testino and (according to the house) feature Stewart in “a series of portraits embodying various facets of the contemporary Chanel woman”.
The first campaign image shows just a sliver of Stewart’s face, sporting her signature smouldering eye and strong brow. The house references her “modern, magnetic beauty,” and this certainly seems to herald a contemporary, almost edgy direction for the Chanel of 2016.
Stewart herself is no stranger to the world of Chanel. She fronted both the 2013 Métiers d’Art Paris-Dallas and 2016 Métiers d’Art Paris in Rome campaigns, and was a face of last year’s spring/summer eyewear. You’ll also spot her at many a Chanel show, both in Paris and internationally, and last year she was cast by Karl Lagerfeld in his short film, Once and Forever.
Being named a face of Chanel make-up is only the beginning of a busy year for Stewart, who has four films scheduled for release, including an untitled Woody Allen film and Ang Lee’s drama, Billy Lynn’s Long Half Time Walk.
