William, Kate and Harry announce new mental health initiative
Mental health has always been a subject that has faced many barriers within society, however as time has passed, support and practices have been created to help people who encounter mental health. It is said that one in four of us deal with a mental health problem at some point in our lives, whether this is a short-term problem or a long-term situation that affects us.
A series of schemes have been created to help raise awareness and to provide the support that those who experience mental health problems need. Examples of recent support include government funding expansion into Think Ahead, a training scheme which helps people graduate to become mental health social workers, and charities such as Mind, who raise awareness and money to support those in need.
Prince William, Prince Harry and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, have all come together to announce a new mental health initiative. A vast range of mental health charities including Young Minds, Best Beginnings and The Mix will be working together to help support those who are experiencing mental health problems. Their aims of the project are to change the conversation of mental health and the stigma which is attached to mental health. Releasing a video campaign, the project is called Heads Together, and the ideology behind it is that, as a society, we can all get our heads together and work together to tackle mental health problems.
William, Kate and Harry will take on different subjects as the scheme takes form, including veterans coming back from service, young people suffering with mental health and different forms of bullying. The charities have integrated with the Royal Foundation and their aim is to take part in the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon. As said by Kate, “Mental health is just as important as physical health,” and it is a subject that we should all support.
