Lily-Rose Depp is the face of new Chanel fragrance
Lily-Rose Depp is the face of the new No.5 L’Eau perfume by Chanel, the luxury brand announced via Instagram last week.
Despite the much-publicised marital issues of Lily-Rose’s famous father, Johnny Depp, it seems the aspiring model has a great deal to celebrate. Having only just turned the ripe old age of 17, she too took to Instagram to announce her latest venture, posting a photo of herself kissing a giant bottle of Chanel No.5 L’Eau.
“She embodies her generation and its values of freedom and boldness to perfection, bringing to the iconic fragrance of the House her youthful freshness and beauty,” the iconic French fashion brand said of their young new face, who seems well-suited to a fragrance that blends the classic with the contemporary.
As a modern iteration of the original scent, Chanel’s new No.5 L’Eau is the creation of perfumer Olivier Polgeand and retains the May rose notes that characterise the original No.5. Due for release this autumn, the fragrance will be accompanied by a campaign directed by Johan Renck, a fashion film and music video director whose most recent work includes the clips for David Bowie’s Lazarus and Blackstar.
The campaign will see Depp take her place amongst such famed Chanel perfume ambassadors as Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman and Gisele Bündchen; not to mention her own mother, Vanessa Paradis, who 25 years ago posed inside a giant birdcage to promote the Coco Chanel fragrance.
The relationship between teenager and international fashion house has been developing steadily over the last year, wearing the designs of Karl Lagerfeld to his own catwalk shows, to the Met Gala and – most recently – to the Cannes Film Festival. Young Depp has already lent her budding modelling talent to last year’s campaign for the Chanel Pearl Eyewear collection, but this will be her first foray into the luxury beauty industry.
As if a Chanel campaign was not enough for a 17 year old, the model and actress will also be starring in three films set for release this year – The Dancer by Stéphanie Di Giusto, Planetarium by Rebecca Zlotowski and Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers, in which Lily-Rose will appear alongside her father.
