Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat: Review
Nestled in the heart of rural Staffordshire lies Moddershall Oaks. Set in 72 acres of picturesque lakeside grounds, this five star spa retreat offers a soothing respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.
We stayed in the beautifully furnished Studio Suite, which features Moroccan-style décor, an en-suite bathroom fully-equipped with Elemis products and a private deck overlooking peaceful meadows.
Once we were settled, friendly staff conducted us on a tour highlighting the spa’s spectacular facilities. The main attraction is an outdoor courtyard that features a heated vitality pool and kelo sauna, lined by plenty of mezzanine loungers and sofas to relax upon. With stunning views of the surrounding countryside and attentive staff on hand to fetch the bubbly, it’s certainly easy to lose track of time. You won’t be stuck for choice indoors either, as facilities include a swimming pool, steam room, hydrotherapy pool, heated tiled loungers, experience shower and reflexology foot baths.
The cosy lounge, complete with an enchanting log fire, provides the perfect environment to unwind with a book, whilst the snug is ideal for pamper parties. Overnight guests also have exclusive access to the outdoor hot tub, in which we spent ample time before wandering to our pre-booked treatments.
Moddershall Oaks practises a range of luxury beauty and body treatments, promising to meet your needs – whether they be relaxation, anti-ageing or muscle calming. We opted for the limited edition Gold and Caviar Massage (available June-August 2016) that effectively soothed our aching muscles and eliminated stress.
The lavish restaurant – also open to the public – boasts stunning lake views, and an extensive menu of contemporary and traditional English dishes, including burger night Tuesdays, steak and sweet Sundays, afternoon tea and gourmet evening cuisine. It was clear why this restaurant has won awards: our three-course meal was exquisite both in taste and presentation, and the service was impeccable. We later retired to our suite, where we took full advantage of the Elemis products and Sky Movies.
The following morning, we enjoyed delicious fruit and pastries from the continental buffet, followed by a scrumptious cooked breakfast, which comprised the finest locally-sourced produce. At the same time, we gazed out on the sunlit lake and gardens, relishing in the tranquil atmosphere beside our enrobed fellow guests.
The spa offers complementary bicycles, enabling visitors to explore the local area at their own pace. This was a wonderful addition to our stay. We were provided with maps and cycle routes, ranging from beginner to advanced, as well as a woodland trail for those preferring to hike. A word of advice: remember to take your wallet, as we spotted a couple of charming pubs well worth a visit.
Although check-out time is 11am, guests have full use of the spa until 5pm if, like us, you aren’t quite ready to leave. We finally departed from this countryside hideaway feeling completely stress-free and rejuvenated, the staff having put us at ease from the moment we stepped through the door until they waved us goodbye.
