Alexander Wang spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW
Since bursting onto the New York fashion scene in 2007, fresh out of Parson’s School of Design, Alexander Wang has been the hottest ticket at NYFW. Things were no different this season for Wang, with Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Kylie Jenner all sitting front row, ready and waiting for his spring/summer 2017 collection.
And he most definitely delivered. Grunge teamed with sex appeal, cut-out bikini dresses paired with fur coats, sporty leisure wear worn with lace up sandals; Wang threw a little bit of everything in for spring 2017 as he proved once again why he is the king of American cool. The 84-piece collection started with model Anique Jozsi wearing a pair of pinstriped cotton shorts with an oversized white shirt, followed by a number of slouchy shorts/crop top combos in rose prints, pale blue and beige.
Most dresses fell well about the knee, showing off plenty of leg, until the sporty, midi dresses came down the catwalk, looking strikingly similar to a divers’ wet suit. Punches of neon yellow and pink stood out against black leggings and Prince of Wales checks, while the relaxed, grungy hair and minimal make up only added to the show’s beach like feel.
It was announced afterwards that the designer would be teaming up with Adidas, and with the amount of sports-wear references throughout this show, it was easy to see why.
