A selection of students from The Swedish School of Textiles showcased their extremely diverse final collections at Freemasons’ Hall in London. The collections study the definition of garments and the art of wearing. If you’re a fan of boisterous fashion statements (especially ruffles) then these graduates are definitely ones to watch.

First to take the stage was Matilda Forssblad’s ‘Future Fashion’ in which the leading model embodied the entire show curtain in an engaging start-up performance. This lead to a more subdued collection of slinkier garments in an array of patterns and shape complimenting the female form. As a whole the designer attempts to challenge the rules of future fashion as she follows up her collection with the statement ‘Fuck Your Feeds – A Room Of My Own’.lfw-ss17-swedish-school-of-textiles-erol-birsen-the-upcoming-1-1Another statement comes from the young designer, Julia Ragnarsson, who wittingly created a collection titled ‘Who Are U Wearing?’ The work investigates iconic celebrity fashion images as printed dress garments with the final piece displaying a breath taking image of Angelina Jolie on a sultry black number.lfw-ss17-swedish-school-of-textiles-erol-birsen-the-upcoming-1-60

Maja Freiman showcases another collection challenging social norms by altering the normal construction and method of wearing garments with her pieces titled ‘Reconfigure.’ Her work features a number of clashing patchwork prints and an unexpected transformation of smart suit trousers into an asymmetric dress. The collection certainly drifts from typical garment wearing in an act of repurposing.

Finishing the show was designer Evelin Kägo with her collection ‘Color Perception’. Her work consists of a diverse shape of garments displaying pattern and colour in a psychedelic illusion. The overlaying of semi-transparent fabrics changes the perception of colour as the models walk down the runway. Interestingly, the pieces become more and more voluminous as the show goes on.lfw-ss17-swedish-school-of-textiles-erol-birsen-the-upcoming-1-93‘EXIT16’ is the Swedish School of Textile’s degree exhibition. The above mentioned are just a small selection of talented designers showcasing in this years London Fashion Week.
