Three Floor spring/summer 2017 collection presentation for LFW
Optimism was the overwhelming mood at Three Floor’s presentation this afternoon, as a breeze of soft colours and lightweight fabrics swept through the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms.
Inspired by Loie Fuller and Isadora Duncan, pioneers of the early dance movement, this was a collection comprising entirely of dresses that took a “dream state approach” to fashion. Whispering layers of semi-sheer fabric gently arranged itself into a pleat at the skirt, a ruffle at the shoulder. The dropped waists and slim shapes seemed to evoke the silhouette of the 1920s, moving easily and gracefully around the form to allow freedom of movement.
An ethereal yet vibrant colour palette of Mediterranean blue, forest green and sunflower yellow took inspiration from the films of the Lumiere brothers. When combined with the floating fabrics and breezy shapes, the result was a unique combination of confidence and fragility. Elsewhere, the delicacy of the lace was juxtaposed against slightly bolder embroidery inspired by African graphics.
These patterns are further distorted by the pleats and folded details that characterise this collection, creating a dynamic interplay between light and shade. A sensual flamenco influence shows itself in a gathered skirt or thigh split, the romantic ruffles adding to the sultry feel whilst retaining the overall sense of daintiness. This was a truly delightful collection, one that captured some vaguely wistful, dream-like feeling of summers gone by.
