Faustine Steinmetz spring/summer 2017 collection presentation for LFW
For spring/summer 2017, Faustine Steinmetz continue their meticulous study of the most popular fabric across the globe: denim.
Presented in an enclosed area of Old Spitalfields Market, models were laid out in windows as if in an anthropological display. Their bodies and faces were painted – and lighting filtered – blue to correspond with the colour of their clothing. Denim was effectively revisited with a new and captivating perspective – splattered with Swarovski crystals, overtly washed and logo-monogrammed.
Creative techniques saw the fabric distressed and dismantled; dip-dyed cotton had a creative overshot weave, while one particular cotton and polyester yarn mermaid dress stole the show. Elsewhere, ancient ikat methods were treated with innovative digital printing, and sculptural designs incorporated crystal rock formations protruding out of fabric to create a unique twist of artistry.
