Versus spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW
Versace’s diffusion line Versus presented its SS17 collection today hailing spring in anything but florals. The rocker-chic line did not stray from its core intentions and demographic: youthful rebellion displayed its usual flair in denim, boots and of course gratuitous black.
Willowy models, both male and female, with intentionally unkempt coifs, made their way down the catwalk wearing a veritable plethora of leathers in all configurations of pants, overalls and skirts. And of course there was a mainstay leather jacket. Acid-washed frayed denim was evident in vests and full body skirts. Industrial edge was crafted in silver chainmail, as it was accented in dresses, scarves, company logos and body hugging mini dresses. Donatella herself made her final bow in a chainmail contour-hugging leotard with a pair of denim jeans.
Though black is always a safe base for a rebel brand, there were bolder colour accents in the form of deep yellow ochre sweatshirts and overcoats and trenches. The same colour piping could be found on printed jerseys and sleeveless mens’ tops. Olive green was also a highlight, panelled into knit jumpers with accents of black leather and silver chainmail. Belted miniskirts and oversized tops in olive techno-fabrics gave an aspect of sport utility to the collection.
Peppered with impermeable sunglasses and safety-pin earrings, the Versus collection served up its usual rebel attitude bereft of cares to give. An interesting dichotomy where ever-narrowing bandeaus and oversized zippers invite you in, while the aloof, dangerous nature of the ensemble pushes you away. To capture such a paradoxical “it” factor, is what Versus has become known for: clad in leather and gunmetal.
