If you had strolled past Soho Square this morning, you would have noticed a growth of vibrantly coloured pillars blooming with sandals, stilettos and boots. This was Malone Soulier’s Spring 2017 collection, and it was one that was not only vastly varied in terms of its own designs, but also in terms of its collaborations with other labels.
Malone Soulier’s own range offered a wide selection of colours, materials and styles to suit almost any occasion. There was a decidedly Art Deco feel to many of the designs, with geometric folds of suede or leather fanning above open-toed heels or flats, sometimes sweeping up to one side of the ankle. Elsewhere, slim leather straps zig-zagged in a two-toned ripple as a T-bar on a heel, or as part of the front of a sandal.
Metallic accents, shimmering as straps or running around the edge of the design, provided a visual and textural contrast with the suede or satin body of each shoe. A collaboration with Pringle of Scotland resulted in a distinctive series of open-topped leather shoes fastened via interlacing leather straps. In classic brown or navy tones, some of these designs were punched with an intricate pattern of circular holes, whilst others were bought to life by small silver studs. Meanwhile, Malone Souliers x Adam Lippes offered a dynamic, head-turning selection of shoes, Including heeled ankle boots wrapped and tied with leather lace, and one white heel that was completely hidden by the explosion of soft white feathers that covered it. Lastly, a unique selection of pieces from Malone Souliers and Natalia Vodianova will surely be popular with the street style set, with geometric patterns and the words Naked Heart embroidered across lace-up boots, mules and T-bar heels.
A fun presentation for a stunningly sophisticated set of shoes.
