JWL spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW
South Korean designer Jaewoo Lee showed a sophisticated Spring 2017 collection for her label, JWL, at Fashion Scout for London Fashion Week.
As always with JWL’s designs, there was a close focus fabrics – particularly on the difference between various materials, and how they can be used to contrast and complement each other in terms of colour, texture and construction.
This season, the looks found the perfect balance between the masculine and the feminine as ideal proportions were questioned and distorted. Shoulders and upper arms were often exaggerated to dramatic effect, whilst silhouettes were long and straight with an oversized yet precise fit. To emphasise this simple, minimalist effect, the colour palette was almost exclusively monochrome. Neatly cropped jackets were layered over white t-shirts and wide-legged black trousers for a feminine take on a man’s dinner suit. Elsewhere, clean white coats were thrown over longline shirts and trousers for a slouchy, contemporary look. A hint of green did find its way into this bold, black and white range, in the form of bright trousers and a more subtle cropped jacket with voluminous sleeves. The only other colour came in the form of JWL’s signature shocking pink, used here as a simple assertion of powerful femininity. In the form of a classic longline coat or a belted trench, these evoke an attitude of smart, elegant confidence. An intelligent set of clothes that really tapped into the current trend for minimalist dressing.
