Sophia Webster spring/summer 2017 collection presentation for LFW
Colourfully dressed and made up like 1960s It girls, models swung from birdcages at the presentation of Sophia Webster’s spring 2017 collection.
Catering for every heel preference – from the super high to the practically flat – the shoes were characteristically vibrant. This season, the designer drew inspiration from two very disparate sources: Dreamgirls on the one hand, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds on the other. The result was a series of 60s-inspired shapes in tropical, bird of paradise colours; Dolly Birds of Paradise, Webster called it.
Alongside her signature butterfly wing stilettos and daring knee-high sandals, Webster also touched on new territory with a series of delicate flat pumps, chunky platforms and a new contoured heel shape. As one might expect, given the theme, there was an overwhelming kaleidoscope of florals and feathers, blooming across sandals, T-bar stilettos and slide-on mules.
As the perfect companion to her shoes, Webster also offered a series of eye-catching bags, from totes to clutches. Whilst some bore playful, oversized slogans, others matched the botanical theme of the footwear.
Sophia Webster is already one of the most popular designers in London, and the decision to expand and diversify her offering can only serve to propel her to new heights – it’s hard to imagine any woman who wouldn’t want at least one pair of shoes from this collection.
