Emilio de la Morena spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW
On the final day of London Fashion Week, Emilio de la Morena presented a collection that echoed the advances his brand is making within the fashion industry. This season saw the designer draw heavily on his Spanish heritage for inspiration, borrowing construction techniques and silhouettes from regions in both northern and southern regions of the country.
Emilio is known for his cocktail dresses, and whilst there were plenty of those on offer, they felt a little more edgy than in seasons gone by. Cleverly constructed folds and striking, sculpted shapes gestured towards the avant-garde, whilst Emilio’s luxurious fabrics and semi-sheer details ensured that the collection retained its customary sensual elegance. Exaggerated sleeves puffed from fitted bodies, whilst elsewhere sharply structured jackets featured peplums inspired by couture garment construction techniques from Valencia. There was also a selection of trousers on offer, the highlight of which were slim-legged, high-waisted and metallic in tone. Paired with a ruffled halter-neck top or a structured jacket, the result was a perfectly proportioned silhouette. However, the colour palette was the real star of the show. Vibrant splashes of fuchsia, tangerine and turquoise brought to life the more subtle tones of grey and teal. Even the shoes, inspired by the Las Fallas festival in Valencia, were coloured in candied tones of blue, green, pink and lilac to compliment the clothes. In all, a bright and memorable collection – perfect for a party.
