Nigel Cabourn autumn/winter 2017 collection presentation for LFWM
Nigel Cabourn’s presentation for the London Fashion Week Men’s transformed their Covent Garden venue into a time-warped ski chalet peopled with World War II troops with its plethora of rich, durable fabrics in vintage military designs.
For this season, the brand has undertaken a unique collaboration with up with Swedish Peak Performance for a specially developed skiwear selection. Combining Cabourn’s staunchly British roots and affection for army apparel with the Scandinavian approach to mountain attire has resulted in an innovative set of pieces with a contemporary urban feel. The Lybro selection showed an evolution of the former brand’s workwear gear which Nigel has sought to reclaim.
Thick as they come sheepskin jackets, heavy knits and fur trims abounded. Dungarees, joggers and hoods signified comfort. Army undershirts, retro sunnies and fun pom-pom beanies added new and different edges to the ensembles. The hanging of heavy-duty fabrics from steel rails amongst vintage skis, bicycles, images and lanterns contextualised the pieces and exuded a warmth and impenetrability, while the five circulating models’ outfits demonstrated how the collection could come together to create a wearable modern look.
The overall sense from Nigel Cabourn’s autumn/winter 2017 collection is one of lovingly made products with an absolute dedication to the quality and authenticity of its heritage fabrics and artisan approach to manufacture: retro, stylish yet ultimately ready to face the elements head on.
