Christian Cowan autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW
Christian Cowan made his New York Fashion Week debut with his sparkle filled autumn/winter 2017 collection. Cowan, who recently moved his brand to New York from London, gained celebrity fans like Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus while he was still a student at London College of Fashion. Not surprisingly with fans like that, he designer is known for his full throttle glamour and this season’s looks were no exception.
For those who were already fans of Cowan, the “barely there” looks like a fishnet jumpsuit with strategically placed flower petals and infusion of Barbie pink were par for the course. He’s known for collaborating on costumes with many entertainers and a lot of his pieces had a stage ready quality to them. However there were also some well tailored high waisted pants, albeit sheer, and cropped jackets that showed promise for where Cowan could go should he choose to have more commercial but still interesting clothes.
There were clearly a lot of influences from pop culture in the collection-one of the dresses was a glitter portrait of Caitlyn Jenner with the word free emblazoned on the back. Cowan also had a celebrity model on the runway: Paris Hilton walked in two of his looks much to the obvious delight of the crowd who cheered and called her name as she strutted down the catwalk.
While not perhaps the most wearable looks that will be on the catwalk this week, the collection showed a joyful side to the fashion industry that has become increasingly focused on designers quickly becoming a financial success.
