Katie Gallagher autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW
Katie Gallagher’s autumn/winter 2017 collection was inspired by men’s military wear, specifically the 1940s era. Today’s popular trend, bomber and sleek pants, began with the original military look, which kept the soldiers warm and safe. The collection continues those same values and draws attention to dark and deep hues such as winter orange and ashy black.
The show-stopping colored bomber is a careful orange-red, matched with tights of four different layers, patterns, and materials, starting with valor, lace, polka dot, and opaque. The tights feed into an open foot, slide-on sandal with two straps across the front.
Perhaps the most unique piece in the collection was fit with a huge white collar, resembling a flattering pair of napkins that flopped boyishly, along with the repeated orange-red strap in the upper-arm area. This band was consistent with the military theme and standard uniform signal.
Other intentionally masculine pieces were oversized knitted sweaters or bombers, paired with skin tight leggings. There was only a few denim appearances with stitched flower designs beside the front pockets of the pants.
Gallagher also showed the feminine sides of the collection with lots of sheer, casual, form-fitting black slacks, black tanks, leather jackets and a black, cross-stitched lace coverup from the neck down, with just a single black opaque strip to cover the edge of the breast. Other transparent tops were paired with slightly large cargo pants to create the balance between masculine and feminine looks.
