British luxury fashion brand DAKS, founded in 1894 in Whitechapel by Simeon Simpson, delivered their AW17 collection presentation at The Langham Hotel on the opening day of London Fashion Week.

Their autumn/winter collection was all elegance and sophistication where masculine tailoring meets feminine fluidity.

Centred around the idea of the “Saville Row Woman”, classically masculine British sourced fabrics in herringbone, Prince of Wales check, pinstripes and houndstooth were subtly modified through grey tones, metallic embroidery, silver piping and royal blue stones which caught and reflected the light. Delicately embroidered sheer blouses were teamed with low slung pinstripe suit trousers.

Severe tailored jackets revealed flowing floor length dresses beneath. Florals decorated flannel as well as chiffon.

A extensive range of woollen coats hung off casually shoulders and confidently oversized bags completed the looks. Sturdy yet high block heels in metallic leather were powerful without being dull. The dominating London sky palette of greys, navys and royal blues were shot throughout with silver and hints of pink.

Durable quality fabrics were used such as the “DAKS Club Flannel”, created through collaboration with Fox Brothers and individuals design such as an exclusive check made from Shetland wool developed by Jamieson’s of Shetland and another by an Italian wool mill.

In this way, DAKS have reinterpreted traditional British men’s style for a look that is business-like, smart and assertive but allows for softness in the silhouettes, self-expression in prints and a splash of daring in flashes of silver. Wearable, timeless classics with subtle edge for the modern metropolitan woman.
